Round ball you play by kicking it with your foot is either soccer, football, or kick ball...
Egg shaped ball you play by tossing it to other players is either hand-egg or American football... can also be rugby and various other actual sports

He's a sysad, most sysad people I know have computers laying around, most of the time the hard drive is dead either by viruses, malware, or Russian maintenance.
He has a working drive (post format x50) so it's easy enough to plug in but will still take time to get all the proper drivers for the hardware.
It's a lot of work and if you've got a sysad friend do it for you please get them a nice gift! or cash

It's common in anime especially of the slice-of-life variety that when a character is late they'll grab a slice of toast and run while chewing on it for breakfast.
