Even for an adult, that weapon isn't built for managing recoil. I wonder what it shoots?

I think that's a closeup of his fingers. And the gun looks like a dummy, for practice.

Agreed on panel 3, I think that's his left hand closeup on the Mag, but I believe panel 4 is "experiencing extreme recoil" in the grow you back kinda level as panel 5 looks like recovery. That is a massive rifle from memory. I'm assuming not a dummy version based on position and targets.

Yup, probably is his knuckles. If it fires projectiles (bullets), held like that it would jump up and knock the shooter in the face. Assuming it's the same weapon we see in strips 371 - 374 and 382 -
383, it has a scope of some sort. They're notorious for smacking newbie shooters in the eye.
But, it says "THOOM" instead of "BOOM," which kind of implies an energy weapon.
