Sam wasn't going to let a little technicality like not remembering what the word means stop him from winning.

Nice, very nice : )
By the way, I am liking this section, but how long have they been in the car now? Seems like a long-ish time.
According to the internet it is a word, but the only definitions I can find is basically planetary alignment, and combining to metric feet into a single unit.
Syzygy, the definition I got was "a conjunction or opposition, especially of the moon with the sun." so it sounds kinda like an eclipse, only a broader definition.
does Sam's phone have internet? They could look it up on that and find out what it really means
It was the title of an episode of the X-Files.
Having been going through a marathon of the series over the last few weeks, I even looked it up and knew its meaning!

The drive is meant to be 2 days long XD. But look at the positive side of things, the first day seems to be ending judging by the lighting of the background.
Syzygy, according to the online Merriam-Webster: "The nearly straight-line configuration of three celestial bodies (as the sun, moon, and earth during a solar or lunar eclipse) in a gravitational system."
this defineitly one of the funniest webcomics i've read
Inspector Hound
Theodore Sturgeon liked the word. He used it in at least a couple of stories that I can remember, and used it in the title of one of them.
Hmm, going down the ISFDB list, I see he also used in the titles of a couple of essays too. I need to track those down.
Toxic Del
Syzygy was also the name of a character in the Epic/Marvel Comic series Dreadstar, way back in the 80s.

There's also Will Smith's hit song, Gettin' Syzygy With It, right?

I'm in love with this comic, and I'm very glad my brother introduced me to it.
I dunno what kind of car Sam has, but there ain't no way it exists and can still be as roomy as it looks in panel 3. Or maybe Aussie Cars are different. Built for comfort or something...
There was also a webcomic called Syzygy.

This is fantastic! A late-comer, but I'm enjoying this story so much.
