Guesticus Not if they hadn't even heard of computers (and computers were being introduced into schools as early as the late 80's, at least over here in New Zealand, not sure about Aussie schools)

VVee @Guesticus Being a 90's/early 2000's kid, I can assure you they were around then. Pyjama Sam and Zoombini is forever etched into my nostalgia memory.
SlugFIller I was born in 1984. In 1990, I was programming on my 286 with GWBasic. And we had PacMan, DigDug, Space Invaders, and Digger. Later, also Alley Cat and Prince of Persia. On the other hand, algebra has been around for several centuries already, so we can only assume this kid had some sort of depraved childhood.

atemu1234 I wasn't trusted to use a computer (by my school) until fifth grade, around 11. I was born in the mid-nineties.

atemu1234 But even I knew how the keyboard worked. Even if it was hunt-and-peck.

Hinoron Jr. and Sr. high schools would have computer labs by 2000, certainly, but I'm not even sure if that many Elementary schools have them today. What's different between Charlie's time and 2017 is how common computers are in the home. Interesting how Sam the Elder became a SysAdmin though. Clearly he got some heavy exposure to them at some point.

Andrew My elementary school had a computer lab in the early 2000s, though I didn't learn to type until 7th grade.
