Safety first folks. Don't swim in unfamiliar coastal locations without suitable emergency precautions. (Insert horror story here) there are a lot of potential dangers to consider.

If you think about it, this is actually a pretty good way to learn to swim (assuming nothing goes wrong).

This must be in a fairly sheltered lagoon; there don't appear to be any waves.
Tides will still happen, but may or may not be dangerous - that is geography dependent.

My Dad taught me to swim by throwing me off the dock. I learned quickly although the sack did slow me down a bit.
